The Heart Behind FSV
Foundation for Small Voices was founded by Stephanie and Jim Papoulis with a shared belief in the power of music to inspire, connect, and transform.
For more than two decades, that belief has grown into a worldwide community of young people, educators, musicians, and supporters who believe that every child has a voice worth hearing.
Stephanie passed away in 2007, leaving behind a multi-year plan that became an important part of the Foundation's continued evolution. Today, her vision lives on through the work of FSV and its commitment to creating meaningful musical experiences for young people.
From classrooms and choral rooms to underserved communities around the world, the Foundation continues to create spaces where young people can express themselves, share their stories, and discover the power of their own voices.
25 Years of Reflections from Jim Papoulis
“Through many experiences with youth for the past 25 years, I have come to understand the profound effect that music makes on a child’s life.
What is it that makes music such an important part of a developing young person… our future?
It increases kindness and empathy, teaches us how to experience beauty and connection, and helps us learn to truly listen to each other. But above all, today’s youth need to be heard, and they need to listen to themselves, their hearts and their inner souls. Technology has de-emphasized the importance of inner dialogue and self reflection, which music can inspire in countless ways.
We at FSV firmly believe that music is one of the most important parts of a child’s growth.
We hope that you will consider joining us in our commitment to funding music programs in need, and help make the world a bit kinder and full of hope and acceptance.”
